Andy Kong is back and much like the title of his new single “Wildfire”, this track is hot. While staying true to his natural storytelling instincts, Kong has taken his music up a notch with this steamy ballad. To say that I love this song would be an understatement. Upon getting to listen to it, it ended up on repeat. With each listen, I found myself more and more wrapped up in the story and loving each line more than the last. As if Andy Kong wasn’t already solidified in my mind as a fantastic singer/songwriter, this song has cemented him as the real deal.
"Wildfire" puts a twist on the traditional boy meets girl story. Instead of living happily ever after, the song’s main character is left broken and wanting one more taste of the poison that did him in from the start.
The song starts with a haunting piano line that seems to signify a feeling of longing and regret, the same feeling one might get when trying to give up their favorite vice. The driving pulse allows this notion to be felt heavily as the character of the song reflects back on a life as a young man with the world at his feet, eager and excited for what the future holds. It is this same youthful naivety that allows him to fall prey to love. This is a story that accurately depicts the trap that we’ve all fallen into, one that while pleasant at first leap, leaves us crawling mercilessly back to the place where we started.
Love, lust, beauty, and desire are all powerful emotions that can turn someone’s world upside down in an instant -- with undeniable imagery throughout the song to help echo this sentiment -- lines like “ruby red lips like the devil done better” and “poison on your tongue, snake venom in a black dress” ...Kong has managed to capture all of this in one track.
As I’ve said in the past, Andy is someone with a raw gift. His writing transcends listeners into worlds much like their own, that reflect on some of life’s most meaningful moments... like falling for someone -- "Wildfire" naturally follows suit.
I encourage everyone to go check it out, buy it, request it, and get people listening. This one is something special.
